On the Origin and Characteristics of Confraternityin Renaissance Italy

Abstract: As a community organization of Italian secular people to express their religious devotion and charity activities in Renaissance Italy, the confraternity was a male-dominated religious community of secular as the main body, which had the distinct function of charity and recipients with group characteristics of secularization, moralization localization. By means of religion, the confraternity objectively played a positive role in bridging the social relations and in stabling social order.
