Abstract: Activated carbons were prepared from Chinese Herbal Medicine residual and were used for the adsorption of Cr(VI)from waste water. The influence of pH,ion concentration, additive amount of activated carbon and adsorption time on the adsorption performance were investigated. Furthermore, the adsorption mechanism was preliminarily studied. The results were listed as followed:the activated carbon had a good effect on treatment of waste water of Cr(VI)that the adsorption conditions are pH=2,ion concentration for 80mg/L,the additive amount of activated carbon for 0.1 g and adsorption time for 1 h. The adsorption isotherm of activated carbon adsorption on Cr(VI)conformed with the Freundlich model, the quasi second order model can better describe the adsorption kinetics of the activated carbon adsorbing Cr(VI).

Key words: activated carbon, waste water with Cr(VI), adsorption isotherm, adsorption kinetics
