Abstract: Introduces a optical orientating and tracking system based on SOPC platform，the core of the platform consist of FPGA of Altera and embedded Nios II CPU. The system adopts DE2 development board，OV7670 digital camera and digital touch screen. It is easy for operating and can automatically locate and track the moving object in a certain range. It also can be adjusted with manual operating. Experiment shows it has low power consumption，flexibility，expansibility，and it can locate and track targets steadily and accurately.
