Reasons and Nursing Intervention for Dental Anxiety in University Students

Abstract: Objective To investigate the situation and the reasons of dental anxiety among undergraduate,and to explore the effect of nursing intervention for relieving dental anxiety. Methods Questionnaire investigation and statistical analysis were conducted with DAS scale for 100 students randomly, the 49 patients whose score more than ten and need follow-up were randomly divided into two groups, the intervention group 24 cases taken routine oral treatment and nursing intervention, the control group 25 cases taken routine oral treatment, the comparisons of dental anxiety relief of two groups were conducted with DAS score. Results The detective rate of dental anxiety of students was 49. 00%, the effective rate of the intervention group (75. 00%) was obviously higher than that of the control group (20. 00%), P < 0. 01. Conclusion The reasons of dental anxiety are various, the most common reason is fear of pain, it has the close relationship with psychological factor. The targeted nursing intervention can effectively relieve the dental anxiety symptoms; also can improve the treatment effect and patient′s satisfaction.
