Luo Fu’s long poem Death of a Stone Cell has a unified form in general;it is composed of 64 verses which are made up of two 5-line stanzas each,640 lines in total. Rather than giving each verse a title, the poet numbers them from 1 to 64. The ending sentences are forceful, whilst the parallelism creates a sense of waiting or perching;commas are used to give emphasis or to combine two sentences to avoid an extra line;the stanzas are filled with epigrams;the form and content are mysteriously intermingled. The set form provides a home to the running and radiating thoughts and the changeable life experiences makes the fixed form less stiff. It is a poem that releases tension amidst intensive subjectivity and extensive sub-consciousness through a traditional form. The 10-line form of verses are not predefined to fit the content nor the vice versa;the entire poem is rather a crystallized product of ideas and images.

During Taiwan’s nostalgia tide in the late 50’s of the 20th century,Lin Haiyin,in children’s perspective in My Memories of Old Beijing ,constructs a Beijing alienated from its politicalized historic context. In her later narratives, she once again experienced the dual enlightenment of old and modern Beijing, accomplished the mission of narrating growth in the process of confirming her self- identity, and reproduced Beijing’s metropolitan progress using her own proceedings. In the narration, the adult narrator occasionally appears and the voices of both the children and the adult are constantly trans-placed and even disrupted, presenting two different narrative attitudes. As a hidden adult narrator,Lin uses the nominal children’s naivety to connect a depoliticalized spiritual metropolitan and a polysemic hometown. This is inseparable with Taiwan’s context when the novel was written. Taiwan where she was living was both her hometown and a foreign land to her and inevitably her writings’depoliticalization had a dual nature. This phenomenon was common among her contemporary nostalgic writers;historic context was intentionally weakened in nostalgic narrations, different from writings of the time in the mainland.

The answers to the three questions in The True Nature of All Things and to the four questions in The Philosopher -King all reveal Chuang Tzu’s skeptical tendency. Chuang Tzu’s skepticism does not appear from nothing but has a brewing process; it mainly develops from the“unknowing”theory of Lao Tzu,which gives the basic vocabulary, content, and paradigm and has already a preference of skepticism. Carrying forward the“unknowing”theory of Lao Tzu,Chuang Tzu develops this skeptical consciousness to its extreme, namely, the skepticism, and offers a home for his skepticism from“unknowing”to“genuine knowledge”. However, from then on,Chuang Tzu’s theory has found few to pass on,mainly because of its own defects.

The increased moral degeneration since the Spring and Autumn Period reflected,to a degree, the conflicts of the ritual content (情) and form (文). The chapter Tan Gong in The Book of Rites recorded that You Zi intended to get rid of the ceremonial funeral proceedings as they were not emotional. Zi You refuted that these proceedings were necessary since they feature“微情”and“以故兴物”. The word“微”was most often interpreted as“to reduce or refrain”and“ 故”as“established formalities”. So these rituals were used to help people refrain from excessive sadness. This interpretation is inaccurate. Instead,“微”should be defined as“conceal”and“微情”as“emotion contained in rituals”. In the same way,“故”means“old or traditional rules or routines”,indicating the stability of conventions. This chapter reveals the disagreement among Confucian scholars over ritual content and form. Zi You opposes too much emphasis on content or righteousness but maintains that both the content and the form should be closely integrated. This thought can be traced in Hsun Tzu’s Rite Theory.
