Abstract: The prevailing interpretation to Niu Han’s poem Mourning for a Maple ，not only contrary to the author's poetic idea，but also difficult to tell clearly the meaning and value of the poem. Placing NIU Han’s mourning behavior in hostile relationship structure of modern people and nature，by text close reading，we can uncover the modern connotation of the poem. As the object，nature and maple actually wake the poet with a special way of death，raise him from a single controllable subject to a free vivid life. So，the poem is an expression of tribute and thanks from a saved life to his savior.
