Abstract: The essence (fun) of the descriptive composition is “fabricating diction”. Xiao Tong's “contemplation” is an example. The reason isthe ancient scholars emphasized description. Literary Selections should be with the persuasive and scientific standards. The ideal alterative is taking descriptive composition as standard, to deduce essence from it, because ancient scholars regarded descriptive composition as poetry. A lot of composition was prone to description. The standard was gradually popular and was elevated as the one for all the “literary works”, which corresponded Xiao Tong's literary theory of evolution, was influenced by Wang Chon's theory of “chaoqi” and could be used to check works as Literary Selections. “Fabricating diction” was in accordance not only with “contemplation”, but also with Han Zao's theory, personality, individuation, textuality, and aesthetics.
