Abstract: β-cyclodextrin/TiO2 (β-CD/TiO2) complex catalyst was prepared via surface modification of TiO2 with β-cyclodextrin using silane coupling agent as the cross-linking agent. The structure and properties of β-CD/TiO2 was characterized by gravimetric analysis in determination of titanium content, fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry (FT-IR) and differential thermal analyzer (DTA). The photocatalytic performances of β-cyclodextrin/TiO2 and TiO2 were investigated by using methyl orange solution as objcet, respectively. The characterization results showed the content of TiO2 in β-CD/TiO2 complex sample was 75%. The photocatalytic performance results demonstrated β-CD/TiO2 complex catalyst could give the decoloration rate to methyl orange solution of 90% under the high pressure mercury lamp for 3.5 h, which is 1.7 times larger than that of TiO2.
