Synthesis of Coumarins -3- ethyl—Earboxylate Catalyzed with Chitosan

Abstract: Coumarin-3- ethyl—carboxylate was synthesized with salicylaldehyde and diethylmalonate by using absolute alcohol as solvent and chitosan as catalyst. Some factors that influnced the yield of coumarin-3- ethyl—carboxylate were studied. The results showed that the yield of coumarin-3- ethyl—carboxylate was up to 87% when diethylmalonate was 0.06 mol, salicylaldehyde was 0.05 mol, chitosan was 3.0 g, the reaction time was 120 min, and absolute alcohol was 10 mL, the temperature was 70 ℃.
