Abstract: During the germination of 3 pea variants(Pisum sativum L. var. hortense Poir. ,Pisum sativum L. var. macrocarpon Ser., and Pisum sativum L. var. arvense Poir.),the 15% PEG-6000 solution was used as the osmotic medium to simulate drought stress in order to investigate their physiological responses and comprehensively evaluate their drought tolerance. The results indicated that the 15% polyethylene glycol(PEG-6000) solution inhibited the growth of buds and increased the content of malondialdehyde and proline in the seedlings of three pea varieties, while improving the germination potential, germination rate, germination index, and vigor index of Pisum sativum L. var. macrocarpon Ser.,and promoted its growth of main roots and lateral roots. However, the 15% PEG-6000 solution had no significant effects on the germination potential and germination rate of Pisum sativum L. var. hortense Poir. and Pisum sativum L. var. arvense Poir.,reduced their germination and vitality index to some degrees, and inhibited the growth of their primary and lateral roots. The drought tolerance of 3 pea variants from strength to weakness was Pisum sativum L. var. macrocarpon Ser.,Pisum sativum L. var. hortense Poir.,Pisum sativum L. var. arvense Poir.,respectively.
