Abstract: Objective To analyze the acupoint selection rules and treatment methods of Hegu acupoint in treating toothache by ancient doctors and provide ancient literature basis for Hegu acupoint in treating toothache. Methods By using ″ Hegu″ as the search term and ″ text″ as the search scope in ″ Chinese Medical Classics(5th Edition)″ ,literature articles related to the indications of Hegu point in ancient books in the Ming and Qing dynasties and before were searched,screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,and a database of Hegu point for the treatment of toothache was established and analyzed statistically. Results There were 93 articles on the definite treatment of toothache diseases,involving 44 books. Among them,47 were single points,and 46 were distributed points. In the Ming and Qing dynasties,Hegu point treatment of toothache increased significantly,reaching 80,and the prescription acupoints were mainly through the large intestine of hand Yangming. In the treatment methods, there were 39 other therapies, acupuncture 22, moxibustion 21,acupuncture and moxibustion 11,and pricking blood 1. Conclusion The Hegu point has a definite therapeutic role for toothache,and its use has gradually increased in frequency with dynasties, with single points being slightly more frequent than matching points, and acupuncture and moxibustion being the main treatments in definite ways.
