Abstract: APETALA2/Ethylene Response Factor (AP2/ERF) transcription factors are widely distributed in plant kingdom. These regulatory proteins play important roles in plant growth, development and response to environmental stress. Due to the plasticity and specificity of individual member of this family,AP2/ERF transcription factors as valuable regulatory genes received more and more attention in genetic engineering and crops breeding. This review summarized the discovery, the structural characteristics, the regulatory mechanism and the response mechanism of abiotic stress of AP2/ERF,and provided some references for the further study of AP2 / ERF genes.

Key words: AP2/ERF transcription factors, abiotic stress, genetic engineering and corps breeding
