Abstract: Organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs)are competitive candidates for the next generation flat-panel displays and solid state lighting sources. Efficient blue-emitting materials have been one of the most important prerequisites to kick off the commercialization of OLEDs. However the performance of blue light emitting devices is unsatisfactory for the intrinsic wide band-gap of blue light emitting materials, which makes it hard to inject charge into an emitting layer. Device performance can be improved by optimizing the construction of device and structure of materials. For the materials,electron-accepting or electron-donating groups can be introduced into blue emitters to construct multifunctional materials. The introduction of charge-transport groups can effectively im?prove the hole/electron injection and transportation. According to the functional group that introduced into blue emitters, multifunctional materials can be divided into p-type,n-type,and bipolar-type. The progress of blue fluorescent compounds for the three types is reviewed.
