Abstract: Grass roots is a sociological concept. Grass-roots narration in the literary sense, as doomed by its internal contradiction, cannot become an effective category of a literary theory of criticism. Its emergence shows only the fact that the academicist criticism attempts to alter the embarrassing situation in which academic self-sufficiency and realistic concern are isolated from each other. But the attempt failed to achieve its desired effect, what is worse, it exposed the defficiency of the ethics of criticism.
Key words: grass roots, narration, ethics of criticism
