Abstract: It must have been in the 7th month of the 2nd year of Jiading when Lu You compiled Collected Works of South Weihe River, which was a hurried summing-up of the lifetime prose works by the author. Carelessomissions in collection and style should the author valued his poetic works more than his prose. Different from that of the poetic manuscripts, the style of the book assorted the writings. Careless omissions often occurred as to style andtime sequence as a result of limited time for compiling. The book was comparatively wide spread with more than one version during the Song and the Yuan dynasties. Two versions of the book were current in the Ming dynasty, at the end of which it got its present title of Collected Works of South Weihe River. What Beijing Library has collected is the most complete collected works by Lu You till now.
