Abstract: For its radical poetic experimentations and post modernist poetic views, the American Language Poetry(ALP),originated in the 1960s and 1970s,has attracted much attention in Chinese academia.Domestically, the first translation and introduction of ALP occurred in 1990,and the past three decades has witnessed three phases of ALP studies in China. The first phase features initial exploration and translation of language poetry;the second phase,a period of development and expansion, marks studies on language poetry and a multiple research perspective is established;and the third phase features deepening communications in which the Chinese and Western academia have deeper exchanges and dialogues on relevant subjects, showing a research turn to comparative poetics. The purpose of a diachronic review and analysis of domestic ALP studies is to discuss the diversified critical modes of domestic academia to interpret language poetry. Exploring the characteristics and tendency of domestic ALP studies can,in the post modernity dimension, better understand the dialogue between Chinese and Western scholars and reveal the turn to the comparative poetic research approach. Considering the future research prospect of ALP studies, the study proposes that trans-boundary research and sound shape will become the topics of future studies, which can, hopefully, provide some reference for related studies in China.

Key words: American Language Poetry, American poetry studies, post modernist poetics, a turn to comparative poetics
