Abstract: As an effective translation method，zero-translation has been broadly utilized by translators in the translation of various texts and a great number of English words have entered Chinese language via zero translation. In recent years，the academic literature and papers related to zero-translation tend to repeatedly explain and analyze its definitions and classifications while few researchers critically investigate its negative effects on science and technology，politics，economy and culture，and other fields. Therefore，based on the definitions，major views of researchers，and current application of zero translation，this essay tries to critically analyze some related policy issues as well as the negative effects of zero- translation on bovementioned fields. The essay also points out that translators，instead of heavily relying on zero- translation，shall explore the potentials of the Chinese language for the protection of the Chinese national language and culture.
