Abstract: In his book Chinese Art Spirit, Xu Fuguan used “Art Spirit” to interpret Zhuang-zi, Which was done by no one before and caused heated argument. In fact, only after you learn the whole way of Xu Fuguan’s “Modern Interpretation” to Chinese culture, can you be possible to enter his words and thought world. The essence of Xu’s re-discover to Zhuang-zi is to advance Zhuang-zi’s “Nihility life” to “Art life”. Xu Fuguan accurately grasped the truth that Zhuang-zi pursues the free of spirit. Through understanding Zhuang-zi Spirit & Art Spirit, Xu learned that Zhuang-zi’s Mind is just the subject of Art Spirit, the spirit of Zhuang-zi’s“Tao” is just the spirit of art, Zhuang-zi’s achivement is the art life. Xu’s re-discover to Zhuang-zi didn’t misread Zhuang-zi.Just like what he said himself “Glimpsing Zhuang-zi’s truth”,Xu’s re-discover is very valuable.
