Flying Upwards And Observing Calmly ——A Comparison of Wen Yiduo’s and Fei Ming’s Criticism of New Poetry

Abstract: Wen Yiduo and Fei Ming are both famous poets, scholars, writers and poetic critics in the history of Chinese literature. Wen Yiduo directly participated in poetic writing and poetic criticism in the Period of the May 4th Movement of 1919 and continued his effort until the 1940s; while Fei Ming, a then teacher of Peking University, chose as his course content the works of a dozen of modern poets, aiming to appreciate new poetry as well as put forward criteria for new poetry criticism. Both of them have made distinctive contributions to the history of Chinese modern poetic criticism. The present article compares Wen Yiduo and Fei Ming in their views and criteria for poetic criticism, their unique styles as well as their influence on the history of literature,such helps to explore the value of their poetic criticism and the promotion they made to Chinese modern poetry criticism.
