Abstract: The mainstream poetry in the Ming Dynasty was greatly influenced by Yan Yu and Gao Bing. The practice that Hu Yinglin, epitomiser of the mainstream poetry, is taken as one at whom to make a breakthrough is to achieve the purpose of investigating his inheritance and carrying forward of the poetic conception. In such issues as style discrimination, period division ofpoems in the Tang Dynasty, aesthetic features of poems, etc., Hu was a true disciple of Yan and Gao, whose great influence on the mainstream poetry of the MingDynasty can be seen in Hu.
