Abstract: University Anthem is a symbol which perfectly reflects the philosophy running a university, and the spiritual pursuit, and it is also an important carrier of the campus culture. The symbolic lyrics and notes compact the concept of the university and demonstrate its characteristics and historical accumulations. Universities during the period of the Republic of China all paid much attention to composing the anthems, and their pursuit about the philosophy in running the universities could be examined from their anthems directly. The university anthems at the time reflected the pursuit from the aspects like inheriting Confucian culture, upholding traditional spirit, advocating ideological freedom, pursuing scientific truth, awaking students' social responsibility, and stimulating national awareness and exhibited animation of the universities. The university anthems of that time have also provided a good reference for the current university anthem composing and the pursuit of university philosophy.
