On the Cross-strait Integrated Lexical Syllabus for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language

Abstract: The integrated lexical syllabus is a universal lexical syllabus for TCFL,which blends cross-strait lexical variations.It is an indisputable fact that the modern Chinese variations exist in both sides of the Taiwan Straits.However,the current cross-strait TCFL lexical syllabus in the TCFL textbooks have not dealt with this language fact yet,which has caused confusion for the international Chinese learners travelling between mainland and Taiwan,as well as causing some teaching problems.The integrated lexical syllabus is a renewable standard lexical syllabus.There are three basic principles for its compilation:seeking common ground while reserving differences,grading the degree of differences,and the principle of co-occurrence.The language variation theory and the second language teaching theory are the theoretical foundations for the compilation of the integrated lexical syllabus.The integrated lexical syllabus has its basic structure,research procedures and methods.The focus of the lexical syllabus is the establishment of the common cross-strait TCFL thesaurus and the difficulty lies in the proper handling of lexical variations.
