Abstract: A local chronicle is an important text carrier of local social memory writing, and its compilation features change with time. In the middle of the Ming Dynasty, the Jiajing version of Hanyang Fuzhi, compiled by Hanyang gentry and literati with certain stylistic deficiency, had a large autonomous space of discourse and the power to choose the text. However, since the alteration from the Ming to the Qing dynasty, the compilation of local chronicles was manipulated by official forces. The writing style complied with the unified standards of the central government, and the text writing highlighted social moral training.Local chronicles became a political tool for the country to try to control local social public opinion. At the same time, the compilation model dominated by officials with gentry and literati participation was formed. It was not only an important way for the government and gentry as a unity to build social values and moral evaluation systems, but also a cultural means for the state to control the local power space and weaken the gentry-literati’s power.
