Disparity of Expectations and Malposition of Roles

  1. With the rise and fall of Song Lian’s life as the motif,the present paper makes it possible to discuss about his change of mentality before and after his holding the Ming-Dynasty official post,as viewed from the two perspectives of life expectations and playing of roles.The main causes of his abandonment of the Yuan Dynasty for the Ming Dynasty and his Confucian identity and his world-succouring sentiments.In the early Ming Dynasty,as a result of political influence,song gradually lost his Confucian identity and fell low to the role of a “scholar”.Such change of mentality from not expecting to be a scholar to finally coming to be one causes the evolution in his literary works from being magnificiently serene and imposing to being fair and elegant.Therefrom,it is possible to enter the further discussion about his literary thought and the change of the cultural trend of thought between the Yuan and the Ming Dynasties.
