Abstract: As a defender and advocator of traditional culture, Liang Shuming didn’t payno attention to the value of democracy for all his safeguard for traditional culture. What he negated was only the mode of Western democratic politics, andhe definitely approved of the universal value of democracy on the premise and the fact that traditional culture be well preserved. The mode of “the majoritypolitics of the rule by man” put forward by him was his compromise between themerits of the Chinese and the Western culture. While such a mode has its bornlogical contradiction, his attitude and his way of thinking in structuring themode are worthy of our reference.
